The clock is running to finish the gymnasium addition to the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
The two lowest bids were presented to council for the gymnasium addition – but both of them came in near 3.6 million dollars – almost half a million dollars over budget.
The Recreation Revitalization Committee will meet with the architect again on May 12th to review the project, and organize two more options for council.
One option is a scaled-back version of the project.
But Deputy Mayor Laura Haight says this isn’t a project they should “cheap out” on, and the original estimate was in the neighbourhood of 3.6 million dollars anyway.
Councillor Guy Anderson says they may also be underestimating on fundraising.
He says another 200 thousand dollars has been committed – – they’re just waiting to see the cheques.
Anderson says there are also 300 thousand dollars set aside in reserves for large projects, and it hasn’t been tapped into at all.
The matter will be brought back to council Wednesday May 12th, but Anderson says it won’t push back the completion date.
He says they are still on target to finish the building next spring.
