Saugeen Shores is getting a lesson in safety.
The second annual Safety Festival is happening Thursday May 6th from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Saugeen Shores Community Complex.
Program Coordinator Dar Noble says they are partnering with a lot of agencies to make safety a number one priority in the community.
Noble says they have invited different schools in the area and about 12 hundred students from as far as Walkerton, Formosa and Teeswater are attending.
She says although they geared the festival towards students – it is open to the general public.
35 partners will be doing hands on displays and demonstrations through out the day so attendants can travel from station to station.
The Saugeen Shores Fire Department will be on hand to do an auto extraction using the jaws of life around 11:30 AM.
Other partners include Emergency Management Ontario, Student First and Drive Wise.
Drive Wise is a new component this year and it includes a national driving simulator that participants can sit in and it shows the impact when you talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
Noble says thanks to their sponsors there is no admission fee.
She says Bruce Power and CN Rail are the major sponsors this year and adds the Town of Saugeen Shores generously donated the complex.
Noble says the festival began because they wanted to bring a one-stop shop safety experience to Saugeen Shores.
She says its a very effective way of getting public education out there.
