How are you doing?
That one question, that many of us ask to people we meet daily, can open up so much.
This week is mental health week and the Grey Bruce Mental Health Association is bringing our mental health to the spotlight.
Public Education Committee Member Jackie Ralph says this year’s mental health week focuses on the theme “Building Your Mental Health, one support at a time”.
Ralph says the theme is based on the workplace – as not only a place where stress can stem from – but a place where you can find support.
Ralph says a person’s support system keeps our mental state healthy and strong.
And adds because these days many of us spend more time at work than at home – than our support system at work is very important.
Ralph says liking who you are – having friends – talking about your feelings and always find something to laugh about are the four important steps to maintaining a healthy mental state.
She says the time to seek medical help for your mental health is when the down thoughts continue for a long period of time and when your state of mind is affecting your day to day life.
Some of the events to mark mental health week are on Monday May 3rd the CMHA office in Owen Sound is having a kick off breakfast from 8:30 until 10.
On Wednesday — there is a Consumer conference in Owen Sound for staff – and finally there is a progressive fundraising dinner that features four restaurants in the downtown core: Tuscany’s, Jazzmyns, Rocky Raccoon and Chaise Lounge.
Ralph says the most important thing to remember is mental health is as important as physical health.
