A group of 15 high school students from Sacred Heart in Walkerton will never be the same again.
They spent two weeks working at an orphanage on the south coast on the Dominican Republic just north of the city Pedro De Macoris.
Student Katrina Kupferschmidt says it was a labour of love.
During their time overseas they did everything from construct a basketball court and sidewalks to planting trees to performing kitchen and laundry duties.
Kupferschmidt says the students spent most of their time bonding and playing with the orphans.
She says the children were so full of love that it made it very difficult to leave.
Kupferschmidt like many of the other students has vowed to return to the orphanage.
This is the second time Sacred Heart High School has sent a group of students to this orphanage.
The school is trying to develop an ongoing relationship with this orphanage so that each year it can send a group of students to volunteer there.
