Hanover’s Aquatic staff have done it again.
The town has just received the M-G Griffiths Cup from Life Saving Society of Ontario.
The provincial award recognizes Hanover for having the largest lifesaving program in a community with a population under 10 thousand.
Manager of Programs Bert Lennox credits quality programming, highly trained staff and the support of Council for the award.
She says Hanover’s indoor pool also played an instrumental role in the award.
The indoor pool allows the town to offer advanced swim programs all year round.
Lennox says many of the youth that take these programs end up becoming lifeguards and use their skills to help offset their postsecondary education costs.
She adds some of these same youth even end up pursuing careers as swim instructors, phys-ed teachers and kinesiologists.
This is the fourth time Hanovers Aquatic Centre has received a provincial award.
As we also reported last week — Shanna Reid — an Aquatic Supervisor at the Port Elgin Centennial Pool — was also awarded the first “Centenary Medal” for her work.
