The 10 day annual seatbelt campaign in Grey County has wrapped up and it appears more people are buckling up.
Grey County OPP checked over 24 thousand vehicles, and officers charged 108 drivers with failing to wear their seat belts.
31 passengers were also charged with the same offence.
During last year’s campaign — Grey County OPP checked about 23 thousand vehicles.
At that time, officers charged 181 drivers with failing to wear their seat belts and 42 passengers with the same offence.
There were also two charges laid related to improper child restraints.
Constable Steve Starr says with an extra one thousand vehicles checked this spring compared with last year, and the number of charges going down — it appears the compliance rate is going up.
OPP remind drivers that failing to wear your seatbelt increases your chances of death or serious injury in a collision.
