Yet more revelations in the ongoing scandal swirling around former MP Rahim Jaffer and Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis.
Today, a businessman from Mississauga says at a dinner last summer, Jaffer promised him a five million dollar government loan at a bargain basement rate.
Ian Harvey tells the Toronto Star, he was president of HD Retail Solutions at the time, a company which has now gone bankrupt, and which never saw the money.
He says August 25th of last year, Jaffer and dealmaker Nazim Gillani promised they could arrange for that loan from the federal Green Fund, a loan that would only be repayable should the company turn a profit.
Harvey says Jaffer told him he was ‘in front’ of a 100-million-dollar fund.
Harvey says company money vanished from Gillani-related trust accounts later in the year, and the case is being investigated by the Mounties.
Harvey says he decided to tell his story after watching Gillani at the house of commons this week.
