Grey Bruce politicians are learning first hand about the problems of binge drinking and smoking in the region.
Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn outlined the stats to County Councillors who attended the Warden’s Forum yesterday.
Doctor Lynn says the binge drinking rate is not only an area of concern but we also need to be concerned about accident and youth injury rates.
Stats show 54 per cent of adults in Grey Bruce are heavy drinkers.
Doctor Lynn says to limit heavy drinking — people need to be educated about what that does to their livers.
Doctor Lynn adds although smoking isn’t as bad in Grey Bruce as it is in other parts of Ontario – they need to limit the supply.
Doctor Lynn also outlined some tips for people who want to stay fit — she says you should plan a program and stick with it for 3 to 6 months.
