Some 250 opponents of wind turbines blasted the Dalton McGuinty government over its decision to override municipalities in locating electricity generators.
The protest Wednesday outside Queens Park coincided with a Conservative MPPs motion in the Ontario Legislature for a moratorium on wind turbines until possible health effects are studied.
Premier Dalton McGuinty said he doesnt believe its reasonable to delay the implementation of the green energy source.
Some of the protesters on hand at Queens Park came from Bruce-Grey and Simcoe counties.
Large wind turbine projects are planned in the Flesherton and Singhampton area, and many residents are opposed to the projects.
Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak tells Bayshore Broadcasting news, the Premier should restore power to municipalities over energy projects planned for their areas.
Under the “Green Energy Act” the province has the authority to approve wind projects, and municipalities have no say in the matter.
Hudak congratulated the local residents from Grey and Bruce who took part in the protest.
He blasted Premier Dalton McGuinty for not listening to voters.
Tim Hudak also criticized the Liberal government for signing big energy deals that pay companies up to 80 cents a kilowatt hour, when we only pay 6 cents a kilowatt hour now.
He says those deals will add hundreds of dollars to your hydro bill.
