Today is the National Day of Mourning for workers who have been killed or injured on the job or suffering from an occupational illness.
The Grey Bruce Labour Council is holding three ceremonies today.
The first one begins at 10:30 AM at Bruce Power in Tiverton, followed by a ceremony at 10:45 AM in front of Owen Sound City Hall and the last event at 11 AM at Heritage Square in Hanover.
Labour Council Vice President Hazel Pratt-Paige wants to see as many employers and employees as possible to participate in the ceremonies.
She notes last year alone — about 400 Ontario workers were killed on the job while tens of thousands lost time because of unsafe working conditions.
Pratt-Paige says on the job accidents aren’t the only problem — they also have to deal with the serious health problems that some jobs create.
