A surprising announcement from the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board.
Starting this Fall — full day kindergarten will be offered at Mildmay’s Sacred Heart Elementary School.
This is not part of the province’s Full Day Early Learning initiative — so the Board will have to cover the cost.
No cost estimate has been released, however it is expected to be a three year commitment for the School Board.
Superintendent of Education Catherine Montreuil says they wanted to offer the program since the option is available for public school students in Mildmay.
She says they wanted Catholic families to have the same option.
A parent information session is being offered at the Mildmay Sacred Heart Elementary School at 7 PM tonight.
Parents are invited to bring their questions and concerns.
Since the Ministry of Education is not funding the program — Montreuil says Mildmay Sacred Heart will not offer a before or after school program.
