The Grey County Disaster Relief Committee in the process of making recommendations to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs about how the Provinces disaster relief program can be improved.
Committee Chair Bill Scriven says now that the disaster relief money is in the hands of the victims of last Augusts tornado, they can concentrate on how to make the system work better.
He says the 60 or so people who qualified got 90 per cent of their claims after the province deducted 10 per cent.
Scriven says they want to know from the province why that deduction is necessary and what can be done to enhance the program.
He also says the fact the victims have money in their hands shows that the disaster relief plan does work, although it could be tweaked a bit.
Scriven says the most important thing that came out of this disaster was the way the community came together to help tornado victims and raise money so they could get the most disaster relief possible.
He also says the committee itself did excellent work and was composed of very thoughtful people and all of them had input into the whole disaster relief process.
