Overwhelming — that’s the word used to describe a benefit event held Saturday night for the Geoff Stevens family.
Many in the Grey Bruce region have been dancing to the Geoff Stevens Band for years and now that he’s been diagnosed with cancer — those fans have turned out in droves to support him.
A concert and auction held at the Keady Community Centre this weekend was sold out with more than 12 hundred tickets gobbled up.
Scores of local businesses donated huge prizes for the silent and live auctions and several bands donated their time to play at the event.
In the end, more than 87 thousand dollars was raised for the Geoff Stevens family and colon cancer research.
Stevens tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he can’t believe the support his community has shown.
He says while he’s completed half a dozen rounds of chemo already…he still has that many more to go.
And more recently he’s been given a somewhat more optimistic prognosis from doctors in London.
