The Parliamentary Ethics Commissioner is saying no to another request to investigate Helena Guergis.
Last week, Mary Dawson said the prime minister hadn’t given her enough information to start an investigation of Guergis.
And on Tuesday — she turned down a request from an NDP member to investigate regarding the letter Guergis sent to Simcoe County in support of a company her husband is thought to have had dealings with.
Dawson says the allegations are not enough to begin a Conflict of Interest investigation.
However, Dawson does say she is giving Guergis the opportunity to respond to allegations that her actions breached the code of conduct for MP’s.
Meantime, the Simcoe Grey Conservative riding association says it has a long line of people expressing interest in running for the party in the next federal election, whenever that might be.
Paul Shaw says in the 12 days since Helena Guergis was forced from caucus, several people have come forward to offer their services as candidate.
Shaw says with Guergis chose as their candidate shortly after the last vote, the riding association is left in a “no man’s land” until they get orders from the federal party about whether and when to look for a new candidate.
Guergis was bounced from caucus apparently over second-hand allegations of offshore financial accounts and possible influence peddling by her husband, Rahim Jaffer.
It followed a long string of scandals and gaffes by the couple, including a public temper tantrum and drunk driving charges.
