The first day of trial for two people from the Wingham area saw the Judge end the publication ban on the case.
The trial began Tuesday for Serena Benninger and Anthony ‘Tony’ Terpstra, who are charged with counselling and conspiracy to commit murder.
They’ve both entered not guilty pleas to the charges against them.
The first witness called to the stand was the undercover police officer the two accused are alleged to have hired to kill Sheila Terpstra, Anthony’s wife.
The crown, supported by the defense, gave evidence of audio and video from several meetings and phone calls between the officer and Serena Benninger and Anthony Terpstra.
Also entered as evidence were photographs of money that the two accused gave to the officer.
Cross-examination of the witness begins Wednesday.
There was a publication ban in place on any evidence that could potentially identify the victim, but she’s now given permission to be named and the ban has been lifted.
