Kincardine’s Deputy Mayor says the municipality will be facing some significant challenges these next four years — and she’d like to be at the helm.
Bayshore Broadcasting News learned yesterday that Laura Haight has filed papers to run for the mayor’s position in the next municipal election.
Haight tells us she’s always asked herself if she can make a difference, and she feels that yes, she can, and it’s time to take a bigger leadership role.
This past term has been her first serving on a municipal council, but Haight has worked as a clerk for Huron-Kinloss and deputy clerk for Kincardine over the past 15 years.
Haight says she wants to work with residents to come up with solutions for the issues Kincardine will face over the next four years.
She says they’ll have to focus on the hospital revitalization plan, as well as some other community projects – – and they’ll have to do it with less.
The revenue streams for the reserve funds are decreasing significantly.
Current Mayor Larry Kraemer hasn’t yet announced if he will seek re-election or not.
But Haight says whoever she is running against, she feels an election campaign should always be a battle, and she’s looking forward to it.
