Collingwood is getting ready for more construction in the area besides the downtown revitalization.
Mayor Chris Carrier says work will be resuming soon on First Street, and that construction will be focusing on getting the esthetics finished, and completing the centre lane as well.
He says the centre lane will be a different colour, most likely a light red, and Carrier adds that work will be starting on both of those project in May so construction is hopefully finished before the summer
He says that there won’t be any closures, just some minor inconveniences compared to last year.
Carrier also tells us that the Highway 26 realignment is moving forward, with work starting on where the new Highway connects to the existing Highway 26.
He says that project is still on target for completion in 2011 or 2010.
And Carrier also says that the engineering design work will be finished later this year for Poplar Sideroad, with construction starting on that road next year.
He says there will be a roundabout at the 6th line that will connect to the existing Poplar Sideroad, and adds that the road will be changing from a rural cross-section to an urban one.
A rural cross-section is designed for up to 2 thousand cars every day, but Carrier says Poplar Sideroad currently sees up to 15 thousand cars each day right now.
He also tells us that the new Poplar Sideroad won’t be a 4 lane roadway, but adds that there will be separate lanes so drivers can exit right.
