Get your team together – your walking shoes out because its time for the annual MS Walk-a-thon.
Head of the MS Society Walk Organizing Committee Warren Bazinet hopes this year’s event – which is taking place tomorrow – raises as much funds as last year.
Last year the event raised 58 thousand dollars — well over their fundraising goal.
Bazinet says the bar has been set even higher this year, with hopes to raise 60-thousand dollars.
Bazinet thinks they should be able to reach the target as long as people register to walk to 5 or 10 kilometer walk.
Last year 333 walkers participated with 21 teams registered.
There is still plenty of time to register for the event and Bazinet says all are welcomed.
Bazinet says the route is wheelchair accessible.
The walk registration on April 18th starts at 8:30am at the Legion and the walk gets underway at 10 AM – it follows a route that leads right back to the legion.
Bazinet says the walk is also about social networking for those afflicted with the disease and those who have been affected with the disease.
Bazinet says 50-percent of the money does towards the national organization to research and then the remainder stays in the area to go to help those afflicted by Multiple Sclerosis.
In Kincardine – about 400 walkers are expected to walk and raise funds for the 10th year of the event.
Last year a whopping 93 thousand dollars was raised thanks to 329 participants
The walk begins at 10am at the Davidson Centre – and those taking part can choose either a 2, 5 or 10km walk.
The event in Kincardine will also feature local speakers, and entertainment.
To register for the event you can go on line to ms walks dot ca or you can call 1-888-510-77-77.
