It’s like a giant community-wide garage sale but no money changes hands.
This Saturday — it’s Goods Exchange Day in Saugeen Shores.
General Manager of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce Joanne Robbins says this is the first time they’ve tried this here.
Robbins says the idea is to “recycle” things you no longer want.
She says residents are invited to put out those items, big and small, out in front of the property sufficiently labelled “free” or “goods exchange day.”
Then it’s up to those going by whether or not to pick up the item.
Because it’s free, you don’t have to sit around to make a deal.
That gives you more time to go out shopping at other residences to see if they have something you want.
Pretty well any item you can get to the curb can be offered.
Robbins says the event gets underway at 8 AM Saturday and concludes at 8 PM Saturday.
At that time you are asked to return any unclaimed items back to your basement or garage.
The event kicks off a week of clean-up activities as part of Operation Clean Sweep including park and recreation area clean-ups; beach and river clean-ups and a special 20 minute makeover of downtown businesses the following Friday.
