Grey Highlands residents wanting to improve their community can find out more at a special meeting tonight describing the newly formed Highland Community Co-Operative.
President of the Co-Op Randy Dryburgh says they want to help other groups in the community access various community grants to develop and fund community projects.
He says this type of organization will better allow members of the community to determine just what type of services and programs they want to see developed.
By banding together, members of the co operative will be better prepared to access millions of dollars earmarked for not for profit groups.
Dryburgh says local organizations, by being part of the co op will be more sustainable and would be eligible for not for profit status.
He says some of the areas they want to service are health, fitness, education and culture.
Dryburgh says at this time not many people in the community know about the Co Operative and Thursday nights meeting is one of several to get the word out.
He says anyone over the age of 16 can join the co operative, which will be owned by its membership and will operate democratically.
That meeting is at the Kinplex beginning at 7 PM.
