Owen Sound fire officials making a couple of recommendations in light of last week’s apartment fire in the west end.
Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicol says only a third of the ten families forced from the 11th Street A West building had fire insurance.
Nicol says tenant’s insurance is cheaper than buying a cup of coffee a day.
He also says sprinklers might not have prevented this fire from starting but would have contained some of the damage.
The building, owned by Barry Kruisselbrink, was completely destroyed by fire a week ago leaving tenants to make alternate living arrangements.
Meanwhile Nicol says the investigation into the cause is over and officials have declared it as ‘undetermined’.
He says it could have been anything from careless smoking to careless disposal of an ashtray to something else in the apartment unit.
Because the building was so ravaged by fire — Nicol says its just too difficult to determine, however they do say the cause is not suspicious.
Nicol says the damage estimate is in the neighbourhood of 900 thousand to one million dollars.
No one was hurt.
