Owen Sound high school teacher John Fearnall recently got the opportunity of a lifetime.
The OSCVI English teacher and aspiring photographer won the Journalism Dream Contest from the Globe and Mail and got to cover the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
As part of his prize package he received tickets to one event per day and was told to shoot photos of the action.
Fearnall says he wanted to cover the games from a fans perspective.
In total, 7 pictures he shot ended up in the Globe and Mail.
In addition to covering the events, Fearnall says he also shot photos of the many parties and celebrations going on across the city.
He added that the games brought out the Canadian patriotism in him and says he is proud of what Canada accomplished at the Olympics.
He says that while it’s a dream come true as a sports fan, he was most excited about the opportunity the games presented as a photographer.
Fearnall has been interested in photography for about 8 years, and started getting really serious about it 2 years ago.
