The war on phragmites continues in Huron-Kinloss.
The invasive weed was quite visible last summer near the Point Clark Lighthouse and preparations are being made to battle it again this summer.
Mayor Mitch Twolan says they are still waiting for an update from the Ministry of Natural Resources to see if they can use pesticides to combat phragmites again.
Most of the work last year was done by hand.
Twolan hopes at some point they’ll be able to use pesticides again because it seems to be the best method at combating phragmites.
Phragmites is a tall, attractive reed plant that isn’t native to North America, and will choke out native species and wildlife if left to get out of control.
