The Point Clark Lighthouse National Historic Site will become more visitor-friendly thanks to a grant from the federal government.
Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb delivered a 495 thousand dollar cheque Friday that will go to creating jobs and to making the historic site more accessible to visitors.
Point Clark is best known for its imperial lighthouse tower, which was first lit on April 1, 1859.
The 87-foot limestone lighthouse structure is a style rarely seen elsewhere in Canada, and it was the first Ontario lighthouse to be designated as a National Historic Site by Parks Canada in 1967.
The money is part of the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The money will be used for improvements to the lighthouse site and increase employment at the site.
