MacGregor Provincial Park is getting a boost from the provincial and federal governments.
Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb and MPP Carol Mitchell announced 740 thousand dollars in stimulus funding on Thursday, to help build new buildings and rehabilitate the park’s older structures.
650 thousand dollars will go towards replacing the park’s 40 year old comfort station, and 90 thousand will allow the park to construct new yurts for campers.
Yurts are tent-like structures which provide year round camping opportunities and can fit a family of five.
Ben Lobb says Huron and Bruce county’s tourism is one of the pillars of the economy.
He says the investment is great for the park and for the habitat.
Mitchell says she’s impressed with the park’s plans to incorporate green building standards with the money.
She says the funding helps keep the park accomodating vistors.
Natural Heritage Specialist Norah Toth from the park says the facilities need to be upgraded after 40 years of service.
The contribution from the provincial government is part of the two year 32 billion dollar infrastructure commitment laid out in the 2009 budget.
The federal government’s funding comes from the 4 billion dollar infrastructure stimulus fund, for projects that can completed by March 2011.
