If you don’t own a home right now, but you’re thinking of taking that big step, the Bruce County Home Ownership Program may be just the ticket.
The manager of housing services for Bruce County, Susan Earle says the program, funded by the federal and provincial governments assists people in getting a 5 per cent down payment on a home.
Earle says contrary to recent published reports, the program is open to everyone including former home owners.
However, you cannot own a home at this time to take advantage of the program.
Earle says they have 100 thousand dollars in the bank which could help 8 to 10 people.
In the past, Earle says they have received further funding from the governments because of the success of the program in Bruce County, but it isn’t a guarantee that it will happen this time.
Couple of years ago, over 60 people were approved for financial help and 320 thousand dollars was doled out.
Earle says besides not owning a home right now, the gross income of the applicants must not exceed 71 thousand and houses can be listed at no more than 215 thousand — new or used.
