Another local firm has won a tender for the construction of the Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound.
Graham Design and Construction of Owen Sound was awarded the tender for the pre-engineered steel structure for the dual ice pads at the rec centre at a cost of 1.7 million dollars.
City Council awarded the tender during a special meeting on Tuesday.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners is thrilled to say the first two tenders for the project have gone to local companies to keep local residents employed.
The bid was 60 thousand dollars more than budgeted — but the Mayor notes they are still ahead since the first tender was 600 thousand dollars under budget.
Councillor Jim McManaman — the Chair of the Rec Centre committee — says this tender involves the structure for the double ice rinks at the centre.
He says the firm will prepare the steel off site and move it to Victoria Park this summer.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners is also happy they are able to notice good progress on the project and notes the work is on time at the moment.
The Mayor says they have not heard about their request for an extension in infrastructure funding from the provincial and federal governments.
But Lovell Stanners tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they are staying in touch with the right people to press the issue and keep them up to date on the project.
The entire cost of the Regional Recreational Centre is pegged at 38 million dollars.
