The high winds on Monday resulted in a very close call for a resident of Grey Highlands near Markdale.
Police report that aided by the high winds a fire engulfed a deck on a home situated on Johnston Side Road southeast of Markdale just after 2:30 PM.
The fire was noticed by children in the area and attempts by neighbours to put it out failed.
Fortunately, the Flesherton-Artemesia Fire Department attended and put the fire out before the fire spread to the home.
The damage to the deck is estimated at about two thousand dollars.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but shelter used to store firewood was also destroyed and is being considered as a possible source where the fire may have originated.
