Renovations to the Markdale complex are 99 per cent complete, and a grand opening is planned for later this month.
Grey Highlands Mayor Brian Mullin says they had to have the work done by the end of March, in order to get the Industry Canada grant from Ottawa of 425 thousand dollars.
Mullin says the only work left is a little painting and outside landscaping, so there should be no problem qualifying for the money.
It was estimated the project would cost 900 thousand dollars, but Mullin says because it was an easy winter they should be under budget.
The town had set aside 375 thousand dollars and the Mayor says they hope to make up the difference thru fundraising in the community.
Mayor Mullin says some of the work in the arena includes new flooring, benches in the change rooms, a new scoreboard and seating in the viewing area.
