Mountain bike enthusiasts are disappointed with changes being made to the Bruce Peninsula Mountain Bike Adventure Park.
Bruce County Tourism Manager Chris Hughes says the park is closed until mid summer while they rip out all the wooden technical trail features to create an easier loop.
Hughes says they’ve had some ‘challenges’ with the county insurance policy which would no longer cover them if something happened to a rider.
But Hughes says, all is not lost, as they’re going to replace the wooden trail features with a jump pump-track.
He says Bruce County has been a leader in the freestyle mountain biking movement in Ontario and hopes that will continue with the new features.
Hughes says the park has been a big draw for the Wiarton area attracting upwards of 10 thousand visitors last year from as far away as Quebec.
He figures other mountain biking parks will face similar situations as insurance companies advise them to minimize the risks.
Hughes expects the park to re open perhaps by mid July.
