The construction on Collingwood’s main street in the downtown revitalization project will be starting sooner than anticipated.
Mayor Chris Carrier says construction on Hurontario Street will start right after the Easter weekend.
And he says that construction on First Street will also be getting underway in early April.
Carrier hopes that means that the original completion date of mid to late July will be changed to Canada Day now.
He says that all depends on whether mother nature cooperates, though.
Carrier says that all the work on the main street project has to be finished by March 31st in 2011, because that deadline is tied to the funding the town received for the revitalization.
He says that means there can’t be any delays in the project, and it must be done this construction season.
Carrier says he’s aware of the short term fear of the negative impact on businesses.
But he adds starting construction earlier means that most of the work will be done during the shoulder season, and hopefully that means it will be finished in time for lots of people to come into the downtown area, and celebrate.
