The real meaning of Easter is being explained at a very popular annual event in Walters Falls.
The 6th edition of the “Journey to Jerusalem” play is taking place tonight at the Walters Falls United Church.
Lorrie Smith, the plays Director, says the event is always popular, with over 100 people normally attending.
She adds that it is nice to see the big turn out, as the attendance at church always seems to be going down.
Smith says that the play is progressive, with groups of audience members being walked from station to station.
She says that the story that is presented is friendly for all ages.
Smith says it takes the biblical story of the crucifixion and puts in in real terms that the audience can understand from different perspectives.
She explains the drama is told from many different perspectives, from an old man who watched the palm Sunday procession to Jesus on the cross.
The event is open to all and the church asks for a donation to the food bank as admission.
There is also a good will offering to help support the event as well.
Smith says there are over 20 actors involved in the production, as well as real farm animals.
The event runs from 7 PM until 8:30 PM at the Walters Falls United Church and runs in 20 minute intervals – starting from the church.
Smith hopes to see the event remain popular as she notes a lot of people don’t want to “do” Good Friday as it is depressing – but she says that it is part of getting to the joy of Easter Sunday.
