Local tourism officials are optimistic this summer is going to be much better than last year.
Bruce County Tourism Manager Chris Hughes says their surveys of local tourist operators show that already advance bookings have increased for cottage rentals and motels.
He says that is a very good sign that people are considering a vacation in Bruce Grey this summer to make up for the cool wet year we had in 2009.
Hughes says he one cloud on the horizon that is a bit of a concern, is the high value of the Canadian dollar as it nears parity with the US dollar.
He says that will have a negative impact on attracting visitors from the US and fewer Americans will travel to this region because the bang for their buck wont be as significiant this year.
Hughes also the economic turndown continues in Michigan, which usually is a strong market for Bruce County Tourism, and as a result people will see fewer Michigan licence plates in the region this summer.
The internet continues to be a major source of information about vacationing in Bruce County and Hughes says later this month there will be some major changes made to the County’s tourism efforts on the internet.
