It’s a big day for Saugeen Shores Councillors.
A sod turning has taken place at Jubilee Park in Southampton for the New Rotary Accessible Playground and Park.
Manager of Recreation and Culture, Jayne Jagelewski calls it a great day as reality is coming to fruition – after five years of hard planning.
Work on the park will take place in two phases.
The accessible playground will be built first – and includes elements at ground level that will allow children with all disabilities to play.
The next phase will see the addition of a sensory garden – creation of accessible parking – and changing the existing washrooms to accessible ones.
The fundraising goal is 350 thousand dollars – and Jagelewski says they are just 35 thousand dollars short of that goal.
She says they’ll accept financial donations and in kind gifts.
The grand opening of the park is planned for Monday, June 28th.
