Warmer weather is bringing unwanted visitors to the region.
Saugeen Shores Police Constable Doug Lein says there have been three bear sightings in Southampton in the last few days — the latest Monday night.
Constable Lein says the bears are seen in residential areas.
He says the animals are natural to the area and drawn to many things in these areas.
Constable Lein reminds residents to make sure garbage is in animal proof containers when it’s outside.
He also says bears are attracted to filled bird feeders – so making sure they are unreachable is wise.
Constable Lein says if you find yourself in the presence of a bear, make noise if you can’t get away – to scare the bear off.
Calling the Ministry of Natural Resource’s Bear Wise Hotline at 1-866-514-2327 is the next step or police.
