Grey Bruce Health Services has managed to balance the books, without having to resort to new layoffs at area hospitals.
President and CEO Maureen Solecki tells Bayshore Broadcasting news they have managed to eliminate a 1.7 million dollar shortfall in the current fiscal year, and could even end with a modest surplus.
The current fiscal year ends on March 31st, 2010.
Solecki credits her Managers and staff at the hospitals for finding the savings needed to balance the budget for 2009-10.
Meanwhile, Grey Bruce Health Services is working on the 2010-11 budget now.
Solecki says although the province announced it would only increase funding to hospitals by 1.5 percent this year, that is better than a total freeze.
She will be looking for even more savings and efficiencies in order to eliminate any shortfall in funding for the upcoming fiscal year.
The local hospitals operate on a roughly 160 million dollar budget each year.
