Big night in Meaford as the Chamber of Commerce hands out its annual community awards.
Manager Jamie Pettit says they received quite a few nominations this year for the various categories.
For Business of the Year honours — half a dozen nominees including the new online newspaper The Meaford Independent, Cliff Richardson Boats, Rice’s Home Hardware, the new eco-friendly toy store Evolve, Scotia Bank and Tim Hortons.
The nominees for this year’s tourism award include — again — the Meaford Independent and Meaford Hall.
Pettit says there were several nominees for the Peter Francis Memorial award… honouring outstanding volunteers in the community.
He says most of them did some kind of work on Meaford Hall — but also on the list is Michael Anderson — a semi retired consultant who donated all of his work helping the municipality with its operational review and economic development strategy.
The awards will be handed out tonight at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre.
