Economists say Canada is rebounding from the recession, but it doesn’t seem like it for many people needing homes in our area.
The Georgian Triangle Housing Resource Centre in Collingwood helps people find housing they can afford and so far this year, their intake has doubled.
Centre Spokesperson Gail Michelanko says as an example, in February of 2009, 55 people came to the centre for help and this February, there were 135 people looking for a place to live.
Michelanko says the numbers are worrisome, but the centre will continue to do its best to help those who need it.
She says she thinks the numbers are increasing this year as people see their safety nets they did have at the beginning of the recession disappearing now.
The Centre usually helps about a thousand people every year.
