After a year of lobbying the government the Hanover and District Hospital is finally going to be able to participate in an Emergency Room reporting system.
The new system measures access to care in the Emergency Room and reports back to the hospital on key performance indicators.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Reta Sproule says this will give the Hanover and District Hospital vital data on how it can enhance its services.
Hanover is the last hospital in Grey and Bruce Counties to become involved in this initiative.
This is because Hanover failed to meet the program criteria which required 20 thousand ER visits a year.
Hanover only has 18 thousand visits a year.
Sproule says this was not fair since the South Bruce Grey Health Centre was able to pool their ER visits from all four sites to meet the 20 thousand limit.
In fact she says with the exception of Southampton, the Hanover Hospital has the highest number of ER visits a year of all the Grey Bruce rural hospitals.
The new ER Department Reporting System will begin April 1st for Hanover.
While it will be a lot of work initially, Sproule says it will be well worth the effort once those key performance indicators begin coming in.
