Interest appears to be growing after a couple of Port Elgin citizens called for work to be done to make the Port Elgin beach, the jewel it once was.
John Kyles and Wayne McGrath say what started out as an idea of a couple of people has grown to include several people who are ready to serve on a committee and get some of the work down to improve the beach.
Kyles didn’t hold back saying the Port Elgin beach looks pretty tired to him.
He says there are several things that can be done to at least make the area look fresh and bright and it may be as simple as a couple of cans of paint.
Kyles says we wouldn’t want a neighbour’s property to get rundown and yet, that’s what’s happening at the Port Elgin Beach.
He says a lot of the so-called housekeeping items can be taken care of this summer.
But then we need to move to the next level and get the community involved in what the beach should look like.
Kyles asks if the flea market should be there; would a splash pad be the answer; how about a kiosk that rents bikes for vacationers.
He says the ideas are endless and it’s time to get them in order and down on paper.
Meanwhile, Wayne McGrath hopes citizens will challenge those running for office this year about improving the sand erosion problem at the beach.
He says to do nothing is simply wrong.
