Collingwood council may be taking another look at where downtown patios should go.
The issue has been a controversial one.
Council recently received a presentation on the pros and cons of moving the restaurant patios curbside as outlined in the Downtown Revitalization Plan.
If the patios are moved, restaurant owners would be able to have bigger patios than they do now, but if they’re licensed they’d have to pay 685 dollars to re-license.
There would also be costs for additional fencing, power supply and shade umbrellas.
The Downtown Business Improvement Association has offered to help business owners with the costs.
The town has even suggested it could waive its charges for licensing in 2010 to help.
Fire Chief Trent Elyea has concerns firefighters will have a tougher time getting their equipment around patios to get to the buildings.
The idea behind moving the patios to the curb is to improve accessibility with an unobstructed pathway on downtown sidewalks.
A councillor has put forward a motion to be considered at tomorrow’s meeting.
The motion calls for council to look at changing the downtown plan to leave the patios right where they are.
At least three councillors said they are pleased with the downtown plan that council approved which includes moving the patios curbside.
