Provincial, Federal Politicians and Municipal politicians will gather today to hear the concerns of Bruce County farmers.
The Bruce County Federation of Agriculture is holding its second annual meeting with elected politicians and area agricultural commodity groups.
President of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture Lorne Underwood says about 13 different groups will be making presentations to the group.
It will include Provincial Agriculture Minister, and Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell, Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller and MPP Bill Murdoch and Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb as well as local Municipal politicians.
Underwood says the briefs will outline some of the concerns of the various groups and what action they would like to see from both Ottawa and Queens park to try and address those issues.
He says one area they want more discussion on surrounds risk management plans and how to make them more flexible and responsive to the needs of the various agricultural groups.
Underwood says as it now stands, framers are pooled together as one group and then try to get one program to work for everybody.
He says that really does not work and there has to be more flexibility in these programs to deal with different sectors in different regions of the province and the country.
This is the second time the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture has hosted this political meeting and Underwood says its extremely important that the different commodity groups can get their story out to the politicians at the same time.
He says its also not just important for the politicians to hear the concerns from the different groups, but its also important for other agricultural sectors to hear about the issues impacting other groups as well.
Today’s meeting takes place at the Lions Hall in Chepstow begining at 10 AM.
