Grey County residents shouldn’t notice any difference in high speed internet service now that Everus has been bought out.
The communications company ran into financial problems last summer and went into receivership right in the middle of Grey County’s plan to deliver high speed to rural areas.
Grey County’s Head of I-T Geoff Hogan says Everus has now been bought out by Barrett Xplore of New Brunswick — the largest wireless ISP company in the country.
Hogan says he’s pretty happy with the deal as Barrett has deep enough pockets to see the rural connects project to the finish line.
He says they’ve already done similar projects in a dozen other regions of the province and are very focused on rural broadband internet.
Hogan says the next phase of the project is to bring highspeed to the Desboro, Keady area as well as chunks of Meaford, Grey Highlands and Southgate.
He says the deal with Barrett is only a couple of weeks old and they’ll need some time to catch up..but he figures work will continue later this year and wrap up early in 2011.
