The Lake Huron Learning Collaborative took a giant step towards its plans to establish a Learning Centre in Kincardine.
Ontario Power Generation President and CEO Tom Mitchell says his firm will give the group 500 thousand dollars over the next four years.
Mitchell says the financial support will help LHLC build capacity to enhance the long-term education infrastructure of the Huron Bruce region.
The plan is to have the Kincardine Learning Centre provide local graduating students and adults in search of post-secondary studies and skills training, the opportunity to learn close to home.
Mitchell says OPG’s commitment to the Learning Collaborative gives them a stable income source that allows the group to develop the quality programs that in turn, can give students the skills to move on in their careers.
Mitchell says he feels in the future programs such as this will develop local talent that will benefit OPG operations as well.
He says the partnership established through the work towards a proposed low and intermediate level waste deep geologic repository will be further strengthened by today’s donation to LHLC.
The Kincardine Learning Centre is located in the former Westario building.
