Its time for students to take a big bite out of nutrition.
Today is the day schools across Canada – including many here in Grey Bruce will be participating in “The Great Big Crunch”.
Bev Gateman – the coordinator of the Grey Bruce Eat and Learn Program – says 30 schools in the area will be participating between 10 AM and 11 AM by taking a bite out of an apple.
The program is in it’s third year in Canada – but this is the first year Grey Bruce is participating.
Gateman says this is to piggy back on the fact March is nutrition month and that apples are the perfect fast food.
Gateman says it has been up to each school individually to provide their own apples but in some areas local grocers and orchards have donated the fruit.
She adds the program helps students to work together as a group and have fun – all while adding nutrition to their day.
Gateman encourages local business as well to participate and to take a big bite of an apple between 10 AM and 11 AM.
Some of the schools that are participating are all schools in Hanover , Hillcrest and Bayview in Owen Sound, all schools in Meaford, Sacred Heart and Bruce Peninsula as well as many more.
