The slap on the wrist handed to former M-P Rahim Jaffer has sparked calls of outrage from listeners to Bayshore Broadcasting News.
Callers are upset with Jaffer’s plea bargain that saw the dropping of charges of possession of cocaine and drunk driving and his pleading guilty to the lesser charge of careless driving.
He received a fine of 500 dollars for that.
One caller accused the Federal Government of gross hypocrisy for promoting an aggressive tough-on-crime agenda while remaining silent when the same principal was not applied to one of their own.
Other callers stated there is an obvious double standard when it comes to the former Conservative M-P who also is the husband of a Federal junior cabinet minister and Simcoe Grey M-P Helena Guergis.
Several callers suggested that there was some kind of political interference in the Jaffer case.
One caller says we have had a two tier health care system for years, and now we also have a two tier justice system.
Many callers also agreed that the Provincial Attorney General should at least look into this case to find out exactly why the charges of cocaine possession and drunk driving were dropped.
