The waiting game continues for Owen Sound regarding the deal to purchase the old Canadian Pacific Railway station along the east harbourfront.
CP Rail has requested yet another extension of the deal – a three-month extension, until the end of May.
City council is expected to okay the latest extension today as per a recommendation from Steve Furness — the Manager of Economic Development and Tourism.
But Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says the endless delays are frustrating for the city, to the point of ludicrousness.
The city wants to refurbish and lease the building as a commercial enterprise, and the Mayor says interest in the building is high in the community.
In fact interest is so high — Lovell Stanners says they will not walk away from the deal no matter how long it takes to complete.
Lovell Stanners thinks the deal is being delayed because the building is a federal heritage property and the government wants to be absolutely certain that the property is being delivered into capable hands.
