Grey County OPP are warning area residents about a repeat scam that’s surfaced in the region again this year.
Its timed to coincide with the arrival in the mail of the 2009 tax packages.
An email is being circulated that appears to be from the Canada Revenue Agency telling the recipient they are entitled to a tax refund.
If the recipient follows the link in the email ..they’re asked to answer a number of questions including social insurance number and credit card information.
Grey County OPP say the obvious intent of this email is to obtain personal information that can lead to defrauding the victim.
Police advise anyone receiving this email NOT to reply to it but rather forward it to www.phonebusters.com
Canada Revenue Agency is aware of the scam and has posted a sample of the fraudulent email on their website.
They’ve also taken steps to disable the link.
