The Owen Sound Family Y board of directors has decided to boost it’s commitment to the new Regional Rec Centre.
Already, the Y has promised to raise five million dollars thru a fund-raising campaign.
CEO Gayle Graham says that fund raising campaign is still in it’s “quiet-phase” as they organize volunteers and plan for the actual fund raising events.
No events have been finalized yet.
Graham says along with that five million dollar fund raising commitment, the Y is now promising more money thru on-going operations at the new facility.
Originally, the Family Y committed one million dollars to be funded thru the operation of the rec centre over the next 20 years, but has now boosted that to 1.35 million dollars.
Graham says planning is underway for the fund-raising, but no events have been finalized just yet.
She is relieved that Council decided this week to push ahead with the multi-million dollar project — even though some funding from the Federal government is still in jeopardy.
As for the old building, Graham says selling the facility is an option but no final decision has been made on what to do with the current Y facility.
