Kincardine council is mapping out a plan to move up on the top ten list.
A recent fire protection report card received by council gave the community a six rating, with “one” being the best and “ten” the worst.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer says they’re going with the recommendation to move up to a five rating, which could translate into “friendlier” insurance rates for the municipality and for the taxpayers that live in it.
Kraemer says first up is replacing the oldest of the fire department’s two pumpers which will likely happen this year.
The difference is they may keep the old pumper anyway as an auxiliary which could increase the community’s rating because of the increased back-up capacity.
Kraemer says council will be looking at improving the fire department’s communication system as well, but that won’t likely happen this year.
The other recommendations, the SCM Risk Management Services report had included back-up water supply were of much less importance and will be further down the “must-do” list.
